Maras, Moray and Chinchero visit

Maras

The Maras Salt Mines, a breathtaking spectacle of over 4,000 salt ponds, are a testament to Inca ingenuity. Carved into the slopes of Qori Pujio Mountain in the Sacred Valley near Cusco, Peru, these ancient salt flats have been managed by local families for over five centuries. From afar, the pools shimmer like a blanket of snow, their white and earthy tones creating a truly unique landscape. The famed Peruvian pink salt, a legacy of ancient cultures, is among the treasured products harvested here, all thanks to the steady flow of mineral-rich water from a natural underground spring.

Places we will visit: Maras

Moray

Moray is an ancient Inca archaeological site located about 50 kilometres northwest of Cusco, nestled in the Sacred Valley. Famous for its unique circular terraces, Moray has several depressions that vary in size and depth, with the largest reaching a depth of around 30 metres. These terraces are believed to have served as an agricultural laboratory where the Incas experimented with different crops and farming techniques, taking advantage of the different microclimates created by the terraces' varying elevations and orientations.

Chinchero

Perched high in the Andes, about 30 kilometers from Cusco, lies the picturesque village of Chinchero, at an elevation of 3,762 meters. This historic site is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and significant Inca ruins, including ancient terraces and a colonial church built upon Inca foundations. Chinchero once served as a vital urban center within the Inca Empire and a key stop on the route to Machu Picchu.
